C25K Update

We rounded out our weekend with the zombies by running Week 6 Day 3 of our C25K program.

Yes, we have become "those" people.  You know, the knuckleheads who go away for the weekend and run.  Both days.  Believe me, no one is more surprised by this than me.

Once we committed to C25K and I realized that we would be out of town for one of our running days, I googled and found a nearby walking/running trail.  It was less than 10 minutes from our hotel and went through a quiet residential area and alongside  a park.  Very nice with little traffic and we met lots of walkers and runners along the way.

You can see our time and distance in the last shot.  This week we move into Week 7 and our third run for this week just happens to coincide with a long-planned trip to St. Augustine!

Zombie Run 2016

Stand back - we're infected!

We had a great time at the 2016 Zombie Run in Perry, GA.  Unfortunately we didn't "survive."  Truth be told we succumbed to a cute little zombie just before the finish line and gave up our last flag voluntarily - he was so excited to "catch" someone!

The course ran through different areas of the Guardian Center this year.  We climbed through windows and went up and down several flights of stairs in the "hospital" building.  It was definitely a lot more challenging this time around.  I took the easy way out and avoided the flooded area but made up for it by climbing up and down the two ammo bunkers near the end.

Although the event wasn't officially timed, we monitored our progress on our Garmins.  We took a time out halfway through to help a runner who was having some health issues.  A member of our group was an EMT and recognized his symptoms straight away.  I'm always amazed at the support shown by the running community - they never hesitate to stop and help someone in need.

Up next, a quick recap of Couch 2 5K - Week Six Day 3!

Running With The Zombies

We're gearing up for this year's Zombie Run.

We had a blast at last year's event!  As soon as registration opened in February we signed up and started planning our costumes.  We didn't dress up last year and kind of regretted not doing so.  After some deliberation we decided on an infected doctor/medic for me and Joey would recycle his Viking costume from a previous Halloween run.

The race isn't a timed event - the goal is to make it through the course with at least one of your flags intact. Last year we picked up a couple of extra flags from some friendly zombies who took pity on us , possibly because we went through the flooded area of the course.  In the end we "survived" thanks to that extra flag.

Here are a few shots from the 2015 run, which was staged at the Guardian Center in Perry, Georgia.  The center is a disaster preparedness training facility for first responders and it's the perfect setting for the Zombie Run.  You can watch a video from last year's event here.
